Sundae Sunday August 3rd is Sundae Sunday. This day has been set aside to honor all the priests who have served at St. Philips church in the past in one capacity or another. The original idea for Sundae Sunday came from Fr. Lovett, who hated potlucks, but loved ice cream. So, the tradition was started to have an ice cream potluck one Sunday each summer just for him. Fr. Lovett was a dear man who served at our altar in the summers. He came to the priesthood late in his life after a successful career as an engineer. He was ordained at St. Philips Church and filled in whenever needed while staying at his home on the Manistee River during the summer months. We have continued this remembrance for Fr. Lovett and all the wonderful priests through the years who have added so much to the spiritual life of St. Philips. |
